NEW RECIPIES

New Liquid Laundry Detergent Recipie

II have been making this recipie for over a year and it washes clothes just as good as anything out there. It costs about 5 cents a load andI won't spend a penney anymore on commercial soap for laundry. Save yourself a ton of money by making this yourself. This takes about 45 minutes of your time and makes 3 gallons. It lasts our family of 4 about 2-3 weeks depending on how much laundry your family does. If these ingredients are not available in your area, we sell in a kit, the listed ingredients for $3.00 at the supplies link.

1 Grated bar of soap

1 cup Borax

1 cup Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda

12 cups water

3 Empty 1 gallon plastic water containers.

USE CAUTION AROUND HOT LIQUIDS!!

Instructions: Measure out 12 cups of water and put it in a large steel pan. Make sure that the pan is steel. If it is aluminum it will not work properly(metallic reaction).I bought a pan just for making this from Goodwill for $5..Put the grated soap into the water and cook on high heat until the soap melts into the water. Stir occasionally and don't allow to boil over or you will have a big mess. BE CAUTIOUS ON THIS NEXT STEP.Turn heat down to medium and slowly pour and stir the 1 cup of borax and the 1 cup of super washing soda into the water mixture. Continue stiring until the water turns clear. Bubbles will develop in the mixture. Be very careful when you mix the borax and the soda as it will have a tendancy to boil over. Believe me, I had a huge mess to clean up on the stove one time from not being mindful of heat and pouring ingredients in the pot. Once the mixture is clear I bring to a light boil and turn the heat off. Go over to your three empty water jugs and put 1 quart of hot water in each one. Then pour with a funnel an equal amount of the hot liquid into each gallon. I use a measuring cup to just dip it in the hot soap to transfer it in the gallon jugs. BE VERY CAREFUL OF HOT LIQUIDS. After dividing the liquid into the 3 jugs I fill the rest of the jugs with hot water to the top. Set aside to cool and place the caps on the jugs. I try to use water jugs that have a screw on lid, but they are getting harder to find.

TO use: Measure or (I just guess) about 1 cup to the washing machine and let er rip.We use cold water for the laundry and it works great. You can use warm or hot water if you wish. After doing this for over a year we have found that we don't need fabric softner in the washer either. We use 1/4 cup of white vinegar instead. As soon as the wash cycle is completed we cannot smell the vinegar at all. If you wish you can add a fragrance towel to the dryer to make things smell good. I just use a little(couple of drops) on a old wash cloth and throw it in with the wet colthes. Comes out smelling great and clean!

Happy Laundering!
